Bubbie and Flapjack
Australian Olympian Leisel Jones has launched a new cartoon that urges kids to help stop the killing of whales.
The cartoon, which premiered on Australian TV earlier this week, follows the adventure of Flapjack the Sailor who befriends Bubbie The Blue Whale.
Check out this video. The Assuies really don’t like whaling very much. It’s a feature piece on a kids cartoon that shows graphic images of whale hunting and butchering. Jones gives some good interview in the video, and there are also a few bites from Skye Bortoli, founder of Teens Against Whaling.
And let’s none of us forget that Leisel Jones has one of the greatest tramp stamps of all times.

And if anyone knows what the hell “spruiks” means – or how you say it – please let me know.

Leisel Jones: Swimmer, Model, Designer, Whaling Hater
The World Society for the Protection of Animals (WSPA) has announced that Australian swimming Olympic gold medalist, Leisel Jones, will be the new face of their anti-whaling campaign.
Jones has issued this statement:
“WSPA has scientifically-proven evidence there is no humane way to kill a whale at sea, with some whales taking an hour or even more to die,” Leisel said. “The intense pain and distress caused by whaling is a fact that can’t be refuted by whaling nations, and it has been a powerful argument at recent International Whaling Commission meetings where decisions on protecting the world’s whales are made.
“That’s why we urge the Australian Government to recognise there is no humane way to kill a whale at sea, and to lead the world in gaining international government recognition that whaling should be banned as it’s inherently cruel.”
And she’s asked people to sign an online petition to the Australian government urging it to do what it can to eliminate whaling.
I suppose the WSPA endorses this picture:
